New Year's Cyber Sew In for the Troops--1
We are doing cyber sew-in this weekend for quilts for the troops--American Hero quilts and Home of the Brave. Is it a mystery? Could be! Here is a block part and its directions. It is one of the options for block sewing to be assembled by volunteers.
From a red print or tone on tone cut a 3½ by 6½ inch rectangle.
From blue cut the same.
From white or off white cut two 3½ inch squares.
Plade a white square at the right end of the rectangle--right sides together. Stitch at a diagonal from corner to corner across the white square. (Black line.)
Stitch again ½ inch from the first line of stitching. (Blue line)
Cut apart between the lines of stitching.
You will have two parts--the rectangle portion and a half square triangle unit. Set the HST aside. It will be used for another block.
Make another of these sets using the blue.
Put the two together, matching the angle seam carefully. This yields a 6½ inch (unfinished) block part.

Taking four of the sections from "Troops 1" , you can assemble a red star.
Can you see the alternating pattern that will appear when we put these blocks together?
Don't forget to save the half square triangle units that were left over.

If you make a bunch of these blocks and put them together, you will see the pattern emerge of red and blue pinwheel stars. If you want to make a whole top, this would be a cool one to do. Works really well scrappy, too, so it will make a good collective quilt. If you make one or a few blocks this weekend to be collected, let Julie know by Sunday at 5 p.m. Once we know what blocks we have, we will let you know where to send them for assembly into a top.
Either way, don't forget to save the half square triangle units.
