Leavenworth Retreat Lotto Block

This is the block we will do for lotto at the Leavenworth Retreat this June. I thought some of the rest of you might like it as well. For our lotto, we are doing it in patriotics, but I will show some other options here.
It is very easy, very versatile, and can use up scraps and make an impressive layout so simply. 

This is designed as an 8 inch finished block which is a nice size for a lotto block.

The large section is cut 4½ inches by 8½ inches. For the lotto, make it of something that reads red, white, or blue.

The pieced half is made up of 2½ squares. The easiest way would be to make two 4-patches and connect them. The colors are any patriotic in random order. You can make several by strip piecing 2½ strips and slicing them into 2½ inch sections. Join four of those to make the side.

Stitch together the two halves to get your 8 inch finished block.

At retreat, one block equals one chance. The number of winners will depend on the number of blocks submitted. Lotto blocks will need to be in by Saturday afternoon to be counted up.
